2014 Home Sales Off to a Good Start

2014 Home Sales Off to a Good Start in Northern Kentucky

Florence, KY – February 21, 2014. The Northern Kentucky Association of REALTORS® and the Northern Kentucky Multiple Listing Service have announced an increase in home sales for January 2014 over January 2013.  Even though local weather conditions have been severe since the beginning of winter, buyers and sellers came together to close out 360 home sales this month.  That’s nearly a 14% increase over last January when 316 sales were recorded in January.

We are excited to see that NKY housing is still gaining momentum in 2014 after a great 2013, which was our highest year for home sales in the last 6 years. Optimism abounds among Northern Kentucky REALTORS® who believe that homeownership strengthens communities and helps to sustain, even boost the local economy.  For every two homes that are sold, a job is created.  Homeownership is the cornerstone of a robust economy and over time, each home sold helps to pump over $60,000 into the local economy for home improvements, décor and other essentials.

Average sale prices were off slightly in January by -3.82% but, as the spring selling market arrives, we expect there will be stiff competition for the best properties on the market.  It’s not unusual to think that nice weather will bring both buyers and sellers into the home sales arena.  Looking ahead to March, REALTORS® kick off spring with a Super Open House Weekend event, Saturday and Sunday, March 22nd and 23rd.  During that weekend, homes will be open for immediate offers and REALTORS® will be available to start searching for your “American Dream”.

In his recent State of the Union address to the American Public, President Barack Obama called for legislation to keep the dream of homeownership alive for all Americans while protecting taxpayers from the risk of costly bailouts. REALTORS® support legislation that will restructure the secondary mortgage market to encourage private capital while also preserving the government guarantee so that middle-class homebuyers continue to have access to safe, reliable mortgage products, such as 30-and 15-year fixed-rate loans.

Using a REALTOR® to help you buy or sell a home is a smart idea.  Their knowledge of the local real estate market and their training in the art of negotiation is invaluable for such an important life decision. Don’t let your dream home go to someone else.  Contact a REALTOR® today.
