The Northern Kentucky Association of REALTORS®(NKAR) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee is charged with promoting NKAR as an organization that celebrates and embraces the uniqueness of each of its members and their clients.

To commemorate National Fair Housing Month the NKAR DEI committee will be sponsoring two Fair Housing related CE classes in April made possible by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Fair Housing Grant. The purpose of the grant is to help position REALTORS® as leaders on Fair Housing issues and to provide education opportunities for members to learn about Fair Housing and their responsibilities under the law.

REALTORS® will learn the history behind Fair Housing laws; discuss and analyze discriminatory practices: know how to advertise in a non-discriminatory fashion; and understand the importance of documentation of their actions. Members will learn about the Landlord-Tenant Act including the provisions relating to eviction, security deposits and more.

There will be a $15.00 per class registration fee that will be donated to Housing Opportunities of Northern Kentucky, (H.O.N.K) a local non-profit that has helped families throughout Northern Kentucky for the past 25 years to share in the American dream of homeownership through education and support.

During the day, REALTORS® will have the opportunity to pledge the following National Association of REALTORS® Fair Housing Declaration…

  • - Provide equal professional service without regard to the race, color, religion, gender (sex), disability (handicap), familial status, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identity of any prospective client, customer, or of the residents of any community.
  • - Keep informed about fair housing law and practices, improving my clients’ and customers’ opportunities and my business.
  • - Develop advertising that indicates everyone is welcome, and no one is excluded; expanding my client’s and customer’s opportunities to see, buy, or lease property.
  • - Inform my clients and customers about their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Laws by providing brochures and other information.
  • - Document my efforts to provide professional service, which will assist me in becoming a more responsive and successful REALTOR®.
  • - Refuse to tolerate non-compliance.
  • - Learn about those who are different from me and celebrate those differences.
  • - Take a positive approach to Fair Housing practices and aspire to follow the spirit as well as the letter of the law.
  • - Develop and implement fair housing practices for my firm to carry out the spirit of this declaration.

REALTORS® subscribe to a strict Code of Ethics that sets a higher standard for fairness in housing than any federal law. REALTORS® are encouraged to Stop and Think, together we can actively prevent unfair housing in America.   #ThatsWhoWeR
